Business Scaleup Services

You’ve built a loyal customer base and your business is well-established. Now you’re wondering what’s the best way to build on this success and expand?

Hi, I’m Denyse. Great to meet you.

Nothing can replace the sense of achievement you get from expanding your business. I know from experience that scaling a business is both exciting and daunting.

Many businesses want to grow, but less than 1% of companies in the UK meet the OECD definition of being a scale-up or fast-growth enterprise - ‘achieving annualised growth over 20% over a three-year period.’

So, how do you scale your business and achieve sustained growth?

That’s where I come in.

A former CEO, I scaled a business. I know from first-hand experience what it takes to develop and implement a strategy that takes a business from sustained on-going growth to scaleup.

My mission is to help talented female founders to connect with their values and purpose and make these a strategic driving force in the success of their business.

Let me ask you ...

Do you dream of expanding and scaling your business? If so, you are definitely not alone. The number of female scaleups, though still small in number compared with male-led scale-ups, is at an all-time high.

Did you know that the Harvard Business Review found that women in business scored higher than men on most key leadership qualities, including bold leadership, resilience, results-driven attitudes and teamwork?

So, if you’re a female founder, there has never been a better time to expand and scale your business and take charge of your future because you possess qualities which can give you an edge in business:

  • Women often prioritize risk-taking, favouring new strategies which create more innovation and opportunity. rather than tradition and security. That said, women also tread carefully between taking risks and creating new solutions, striking a good balance.

  • Women handle crisis situations which require flexibility and critical thinking well. This leads to a better workplace climate.

  • Women are strong communicators which is essential for setting boundaries and expectations. This leads to high-performing teams and projects, and business success.

  • Women are able to build and nurture relationships with their teams because they are empathetic. This makes for a more productive working environment where employees feel appreciated.

  • Because many women leaders balance family with their professional lives, they’re in tune with their employee’s desire for worklife balance.

If you want to scale your business, I promise that not only is all this possible, I’ve created the solution to help get you there faster!

How Business Scaleup Services Work

I’ll help you turn your vision into a robust strategy and action plan that will act as an internal guide to drive your company’s growth and important tool for raising finance, if this is a route you want to pursue.

In my experience, backed up by research, the foundations of successful and sustained growth and scaleup success are purpose, people and culture. We will make these a strategic driving force in the success of your business.

  • Together, we’ll devise a well-thought-out strategic plan which answers the question how will you get from where you are today to your envisioned future? We’ll take into consideration creating a purpose-led brand, developing a business growth strategy, ensuring financial health, building an effective company and fulfilling the mission and values of your company.

  • We’ll develop long-term strategic objectives, goals and priorities which connect the mission of your business with your vision. We’ll develop a three-year strategy and break this down into a one-year actionable plan.

  • We’ll turn your one-year action plan into a set of quarterly projects and activities which will take you closer to your envisioned future. We’ll link the resources you have – people and financial - with what you’ll need to do to realise that future.

  • As you implement your plan, we’ll monitor your results to make sure you’re on track to achieve your plan. We’ll stay alert to any issues – internal or external - which could affect you and your business scaleup.

Here are some of the results my business scaleup clients have got from working with me .

  • Lucia launched …

… three collections of Spanish influenced tableware in 2020/21, each of which sold out straightaway.

Lucia started her ceramics business a few months after her fashion job fell through due to the pandemic. The business is profitable, and she is paying herself a small salary. Profits are being reinvested into speeding up production of Lucia’s beautiful tableware because it sells out so quickly.

  • Nathalie generated...

… > £11,500/ month in recurring revenue by developing a subscription model for her sustainable flower business.

When the pandemic struck, Nathalie’s routes to market were closed. With help from a grant, she digitalised her business. She set a goal of achieving 250 subscriptions/ month which she achieved 3 months ahead of schedule. Nathalie employed a marketing team, and this has sped up growth.

  • Tara paid herself...

… ...3x what she did within 6 months of starting work with me after doubling the turnover of her marketing agency.

We repositioned Tara’s agency to focus on working with companies in the green technology sector. This took courage and some serious soul searching. But by pruning, Tara’s agency was better able to stand out to her target client and her pipeline and her business grew as a result.

My Official Bio

I’m a Brighton & Hove based business consultant and coach and founder of We Are Mimosa, a leadership development company driven by purpose. Its aim is to create a collaborative community of female founders which lifts as we climb. A Chief Executive for 8 years, I spent 25 years in senior management and leadership roles and trained at Cranfield School of Management.

I made the leap from corporate to founding my boutique business consultancy and have worked with a wide range of small and medium sized businesses, many of which are purpose-led. My mission is to close the gender gap in business and make it easier for women to start, grow and scale a successful business without compromising their values.

Social justice is one of the threads which runs through my career, and I led the introduction of equal pay and flexible working schemes at three workplaces. I worked on a London-wide project to implement the MacPherson Report into systemic racism and introduce anti-racist business practice as part of my Diversity, Equality and Inclusion work.

I have a deep knowledge of what’s involved in growing and scaling businesses, having led teams of 150+ people and been responsible for overseeing multimillion-pound budgets, multiple workplaces and complex change management projects. This included the award of Investors in People, a prestigious accreditation for people management.

I live on the Sussex south coast. I’m writing my first book, in between planning next steps for We Are Mimosa, coastal walks and watching Marcus Wareing’s Tales From A Kitchen Garden.

  • Yes, I follow a similar strategic planning process to the one I used as a Chief Executive: a process which aims to answer the following four seemingly simple questions:

    1. Where are you now?

    2. Where are you going?

    3. How can I support you in bridging the gap?

    4. How will you measure progress towards that envisioned future?

Through my blended approach - using proven consulting frameworks drawn from my time as a Chief Executive combined with expert coaching - I help my clients to create a roadmap to take their business from where it is today to their envisioned future.

I’ve worked with more than 50 types of companies, and you’ll find case studies in my portfolio.

  • In a limited number of cases, and for very specific reasons, there are businesses I don’t work with. These reasons include:

    • The business isn’t financially viable.

    • Unethical business practices.

    • Poor customer care.

    • Not taking action on their decisions.

    • Not paying on time.
