Many of you will know that I spent 8 years as a CEO, and a 25 year corporate background in senior leadership and managerial roles. What most people don’t know is that I also have a strong campaigning background. I’m passionate about the role of education in changing lives and social justice to create a more equitable society. That’s why I’ve created Business Champions.
And this is why I love how entrepreneurship opens up opportunities. Here in the UK, the number of new businesses has increased by 3% every year since 2000. And a staggering 7.1% of people (according to 2015 statistics) were in the early stages of planning an entrepreneurial venture. That’s fantastic!
But the statistic I like less is the number of people who go out of business. 20,000 in May according to HMRC figures.
So I’m on a mission!
My sweet spot is helping micro business owners (0 – 9 employees) formulate and implement the right business strategy so that they can make the transition to a small business (10 – 49 employees) and then to a medium sized business (50 – 249 employees). Each stage requires a different focus and the development of further skills. For those in the early stages of planning their entrepreneurial venture, it’s validating that there’s a market for the product and putting together the finances. For start-ups it’s all about sales and marketing in order to reach that critical break-even point. And for small businesses it’s all about getting the management of people and systems right.
But there are only so many hours in the day and I can only work with a small number of people on a 1:1 basis. That’s why I’ve set up Business Champions.
My vision is to create a vibrant network of business champions, collaborating together to create businesses that stand out from the crowd, punch above their weight and achieve exceptional results. People who want to take their business to a whole new level, but right now, cash flow doesn’t allow for ongoing business coaching.
What Exactly Is A Business Champion?
From start-ups to established companies, Business Champions come from all industries. What unites them are the following:
- They’re small and mighty business owners working hard to stand out from the crowd and punch above their weight.
- They’re far too savvy to follow the herd. They know that business success comes from being standing out and being different.
- They want to take their business to a whole new level; not just the next level.
- They’re committed to excellence in all aspects of their business – from the way they serve their clients, to the products they sell, to the way they sell and market their business through to the culture they create in their company.
- They build powerful and authentic relationships and networks, championing others along the way.
- They have (or are in the process of developing) a strong vision for their business. They may champion a cause – either directly through their business or privately in a personal capacity.
