An Invitation To Join Me In The 10X Challenge

This week, I’ve been taking a Marketing Certification course with CoSchedule, whose software I use to manage my content marketing strategy. Following a discussion around marketing goals, I decided to set a BHAG (big hairy audacious goal). To 10X my website traffic by the end of the year. Would you like to join me in this challenge and 10X your website traffic too?

Big, hairy audacious goals worth achieving are typically difficult to attain. But if I want to catapult my business to the next level, I’m going to have to put my shoulder to the wheel, and give every ounce of effort I can to achieving this goal.

Why is it so important that I 10X my website traffic? Why this particular platform building goal, rather than say list building?

The answer is simple. Achieving this goal is the first step in building a platform that has the power to deliver on my mission to help 1 million businesses, do good, make money and change the world. I already get a decent amount of traffic to my website. My aim is to leverage this as cost effectively as possible. In essence, the more people who visit my website, the higher the number of people will download my free guides and want to use my services. This in turn substantially increases the number of people I can help and serve.

But I don’t just want ‘any old website traffic.’ This isn’t solely a numbers game. I want the visitors to my website to be business owners who like me want to ‘Do Good, Make Money and Change The World.’ My ideal customer if you will. So if you’re a business owner reading this article , and are not interested in doing good, making money and being the change you want to see in the world, you know you’re not in the right place. (Although you will still get immense value from reading my articles).

I also want visitors to my website to read my articles in full, stay on my website to look around and return regularly. So I’ve set some targets for ‘dwell time’ and ‘return visitors.’

If you’re an artist, you’ll know that every great masterpiece is created one small brush stroke at a time. Leonardo Da Vinci’s friends mocked him for his tiny brushstrokes, teasing him that the Mona Lisa would take forever to paint. But Da Vinci created a masterpiece of photographic quality which is revered to this day.

Every big, hairy audacious goal is achieved step by small step, one patient brushstroke at a time.

This is how I’m going to achieve my goal to 10X my website traffic by the end of the year.

If you’re looking for me to share ‘the 7 steps to 10X your website traffic’ with you, you’re going to be sadly disappointed. I know the first few steps I’m going to take. Here’s how I’m getting started.

  • As part of my ‘Daily 5,’ I am taking one action, no matter how small, that will take me one step further to achieving this goal. Because consistent action creates consistent results.
  • I’ve gone into Google Analytics to check out my starting position, and set targets around average ‘dwell time’ and returning visitors. (If ‘dwell time’ on your articles is 2 minutes or more, this is, according to my research, considered outstanding).
  • I’ve looked at my 100 most popular articles (in Google Analytics) to check how long people spend on average on each of these articles to identify my 20 ‘best performers’ and my 20 ‘worst performers.’
  • I’m removing my 20 ‘worst performing posts’ from my social media automation. At a later date, I’ll review the title and headline to see how I can improve this content.
  • I’m going to look at my 20 ‘best performing posts’ to see how they can be improved. I’ll make sure each post has a relevant lead magnet to encourage email sign ups. And then I’ll prioritise these in my reorganised social media automation. Basically I want to drive traffic to the articles that I know people stay on and read to the end i.e. they have high dwell time. Over time, these will show up as my ’10 Most Popular Posts.’
  • I’m in the process of a major re-brand to create a more sophisticated and enticing brand. One of the objectives for my re-brand is to make sure target customers are attracted to my website.
